Description

- A perennial or biennial herb with hollow leaves, a flowering stem and a globe-like fleshy bulb.
- The essential oil is produced mainly in Egypt from the red onion.

   
Uses

- Anti-helminthic, anti-microbial, anti-rheumatic, antiseptic, anti-sclerotic, antispasmodic, antiviral, bactericidal, carminative, depurative, digestive, diuretic, expectorant, fungicidal, hypoglycemic, hypotensive, stomachic, tonic, vermifuge.
- The Onion has a sound reputation for correcting glandular imbalance and weight problems as well as improving lymphatic drainage, which is often responsible for Oedema and puffiness.
- Holland's gin, in which onions have been macerated, is given as a cure for gravel and dropsy.
- It is high in Vitamin A, B, and C and shares many of the properties of garlic, to which it is closely related.
- Raw onion helps to keep colds and infections at bay.
